Adapting to the Stage
by David Blakely

Have you ever read a book and thought to yourself, "This would make a great movie!" Maybe not a book: a movie, a story, a graphic novel or comic, a poem, a painting. This workshop will get you started on that passion project, giving you tips and guidance to navigate your way to a finished project. There will be some fun exercises, questions to consider, copyright to address. Most importantly, you leave with a clearer idea of what to do to get your play on its way!
David Blakely is a playwright, director, actor, and songwriter living in Tulsa, OK. His adaptations include: The Deaths of Sybil Bolton, Wind in the Willows, Enemy of the People, Frankenstein among others. He has taught playwriting for over 25 years. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild.

Creative Heresy: How to Unfollow the Rules

“Think outside the box” is easy advice—but what happens when you cannot see the box you are working inside? In this interactive workshop, participants will identify the hidden assumptions shaping their creative projects, deliberately challenge one of those assumptions, and transform it into a more unexpected artistic choice. Using exercises in reversal, removal, exaggeration, and purposeful experimentation, participants will develop practical ways to move beyond predictable ideas without seeming like a forced shock-and-awe effect. Designed for writers, performers, directors, designers, filmmakers, and multidisciplinary artists, this workshop invites participants to question inherited formulas, embrace productive discomfort, and discover what becomes possible when creative rules become choices rather than obligations.

Boston born, New England based artist.
I’m a creator, producer, performer, and production designer with experience across theatre, live events, lighting, staging, logistics, budgeting, and audience engagement. My work lives somewhere between the wildly imaginative and the deeply practical — I care just as much about the strange spark of an idea as I do about the structure needed to actually make it happen.
Before founding TA, I wrote and performed a one-person historical character experience in Boston that drew thousands of audience members annually and was featured in regional press and marketing materials, including The Boston Globe. Since then, I’ve continued building work that blends performance, design, planning, and atmosphere into experiences that feel distinct, intentional, and alive.
Transient Art Productions is built from that same balance: bold ideas, clear planning, and a refusal to make creative work feel generic. Look through the eye of the needle with me and see what what's on the other side of normal.

ME TOO. Have you ever actually realized any of those? Me either. It took me for ever to realize "it doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to BE". When you finally conquer the impossible aspiration of perfection, you can free yourself into actually creating.
Laura Susana Tapia (she/her) is a director, producer, and proud Latina! She's passionate about socially conscious theatre, amplifying the real voices of communities represented on stage, and drama therapy. Favorite credits include 1 Hour of Insane Magic and In Pour Taste at the Adelaide Fringe and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals. She is based in OKC and can be found around town directing music videos, organizing city-wide festivals, and dancing the night away.

Cat Pitt has worked as a Props Designer/Artisan and Professional Silly Human for 20+ years, come listen to them tell you how to make your own funny stuff! Cat has worked for the past two years at the Groundlings Theatre in Los Angeles California, and previously worked at Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City Repertory Theatre, Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park, and several other theatres in the OKC metro area. They are VERY SERIOUS about GETTING SILLY and they can't wait to share their love of props with you!
Catherine (Cat) Pitt has worked in Theatre in Oklahoma and Los Angeles for 20+ years, specializing in small-stage productions and generalizing in being a theatrical swiss army knife. Most recently they have worked with the Groundlings Theatre, The Stella Adler Academy, Little Fish Theatre Company, and various Fringe endeavors in Oklahoma City and Hollywood.
